I decided to do a little journal of this... so that if any emetophobics who wants kids but cant face it it might help them to see that being emetophobic doesnt mean you cant be a good mum. We just need a bit of extra support when it comes to sickness.
I already have a daughter. She is three. Last month I came off the pill to try for number two.

When i had danni, i took stemital for nausia. It did work and i didnt really get that tired either.  So before I came off the pill I asked my gp if i could have it aain and he did say yes.

I know this may take a while to conceive, im 30 now and been on the pill and i hope im not jinxing myself by doing this thread!

Coming off the pill has brought side effects! I had nasty ovulation pains but  this done mean I did infact ovulate which is good.
Also had a nasty taste in my mouth over the last 18 hours... driving me bonkers and because I am emetophobic it bothered me more so. It went from metalic to ashy, which i assume is relating to coming off the pill.

Hi, I'm really glad you've posted this.  My husband and I are hoping to start trying for a baby in November this year, after years of thinking that I didn't want children I now really really want a baby!  I've just turned 29.

Is there anything you're supposed to do to prepare yourself for this?  I've heard about taking folic acid etc but I'm not sure when and if you're supposed to start.

The weird thing is that after years of worrying that I am pregnant when my period has been a few days late I'm now really worried that I won't be able to fall pregnant when I'm actually trying (if that makes sense!).  I'm really scared that there'll be something that will go wrong, that we won't be able to conceive etc (is that normal or am I just paranoid?)

Good luck Dragonfly, I hope it doesn't take you too long to conceive.  How did you feel with your first pregnancy?  I'm terrified about morning sickness not to mention the actual birth but for once I feel that the want for a child actually outweighs all the bad things that might come with it!

I never got ms with my daughter!
If you speak to your GP before you get pregnant and ask if they will give you anti emetics immedatly as a just incase, there is also lots of things you do to to prevent, assist with the msickness!

As for preperation, as long as you eat healthily, try and stay away for junk food and increase veg and fruit intake then you shouldnt need a suppliment. Excerise 40 min walk, lay off the caffine a bit, drink more fruit juices or water..
Full fat milk only.

I will not take folic acid again because it really did make me feel rough, however i will increase it in my diet. Its in lots of food especially in Fortified breakfast cerials and baked beans and broccoli (not all on the plate at once)

The nhs to advice you take folic acid up to 3 months before you start to try though.

Remember im here.... I can give you more information on how you know if you ovalate!! Its rather personal so if you dont know and want to then ill pm you!! I didnt know until this month... and because ive been on the pill for years.... i had a shock..
Never noticed with my daughter!!  lol!!!

Thanks, that's helpful!  I think I might go to the doctor and see what they suggest re anti sickness medication nearer the time.  Not sure about the folic acid, I might give it a go in a month or so's time to see how I am on it.

I have been off the pill for about 3 years now, I can't take any form of pill because I have a reaction to one of the hormones in it which causes me to have dark pigmentation marks on my skin.  From keeping a diary I can now tell ovulation pains (and I now know what they are rather than panicking that it's the start of a bug or something!).  You definitely get to know your body more not being on the pill I think.

I'm really excited when I think about trying for a baby but I have a lot of nagging worries about how our lives will change etc.  I guess that's normal though.

The life change can be quite hard to adjust to, and so can the opening of another way the bugs can get into your life.

But , i look at my daughter. ands she worth

BTW the labour... When your in labour and give birth is different than anything else you'll ever imagine.. because you KNOW it will stop and parental instinct kicks in.. its not that bad! Honest.. i have a lower pain threshold... and im doing it again (hopefull)
The best way to tell when you are ovulating is by what comes out of you, you'll lose sticky egg white kind of stuff for a few days, thats when your eggs released!!

I have 2 daughters and they mean everything to me BUT mention the word I feel sick and it sends me running for miles, my poor little mites have been sat there arms out stretched saying can I have a cuddle mummy (covered in you know what) and I just cannot bear to go near them, I am a good mum in other ways though and as they grow older as long as you made it clear that its mummys daft ways they do understand, my 5 year old will go to her Daddy if she feels ill instinctively as she knows and says Mummy doesnt like sick so I go to daddy.  I never had morning sickness with ither of my 2, and tbh the labours were both induced down to me having pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes, they are supposed to be more painful than natural births and theres no getting away from it it does hurt, however I found that giving birth was far less traumatic for me and less painful than being told there is a bug going around your childs class and the anticipation of them getting sick!!!

i have 5 children. and am 15 weeks pregnant with number 6!
i too took stemetil during the first 12 weeks "just in case" but have never had morning sickness.with my first which is my only daughter! i di suffer from very bad heartburn all the way through the entire pregnancy , the doctor prescribed gaviscon.i took it once and made me feel sick so after that i just suffered with the heartburn! i read up on all the pain relief during my first pregnancy, the only thing that said didnt cause nausea was an epidural. i had one with my first 3. the last two i did the whole labour thing with no pain refief.god is was sheer agony. but i amazed the midwifes cos i was in so much pain i couldnt talk but even then cos of being an emet i wouldnt even try gas and air.thats when i hated having this phobia because i would rather have that pain then try pain relief that may-and i say only may cause me to feel sicky!
good luck with trying to get pregnant.

xxxxx
