After weeks of putting up with a car that doesn't always start and the garage can't find the fault, I treated myself to a new car.  I was meant to be picking it up Tonight and they have just phoned to say it won't be ready until Monday as they haven't had time to do the preparation!!!!
I have already paid £16 to transfer my insurance, they have just charged me another £16 to delay the change over!!! Arghhh.

car salesmen suck! lol.
my brother works as one and has got me in so much negative equity cos he keeps convincing me to change my car!
he bought himself a £23,000 brand new car the other week (he earns too much!!!) and before he left the (rival) showroom, he pointed out a few wee scratches on the bodywork and they said "that's ok. take it away and bring it back later to get fixed".
now they are DENYING they ever said that and refusing to fix the scratches.
when he took the car out in daylight, he discovered a scratch on the WINDSCREEN. which is impairing his night vision.
the sales manager told him "just drive during the day then".
??????????????????????????
so even car salesmen themselves get screwed over by their own colleagues.
it's incredibly frustrating.
i hope you get it all sorted - and i'd be asking them to cover your costs, as dragonfly said.

I know exactly what you mean Gail.  I too will clean it myself so that I know its clean.  LOL.

I rang the garage back and they have arreed to give me a full tank of fuel and a set of genuine vauxhall car mats (£38) by way of compensation.

The salesman explained that the car had been preped but when he checked it over it wasn't up to his standards and would prefer to put it off than have me disappointed.  A good theory if its genuine.

Anyway I have to wait for Monday now which is a shame as its my birthday on Sunday and it would have been nice to have my new car for that.

Went to collect my car yesterday after receiving a phone call to say it was ready.  Arrived at the garage to find it in the workshop being dismantled!!
The sales man had gone to get petrol in it and the air bag warning lights had come on.  They tried to get them off but couldn't find where the fault is.
Completely fed up I asked for my deposit back which they agreed to.
When we got home the Managing director of this garage group phoned to say how sorry he was and to ask if they could find me a better/newer car for the same deal.
I really don't know what to do now.  Can I trust them to do this or not?

i would accept their offer.
i know it's been incredibly frustrating but i guess it's not the general manager's fault that some mechanical has gone wrong.
:-(
at least he's acknowledging the problem and is offering to get you a good deal on a newer car. that's better customer service than a lot of places would give.
remember that just cos THIS one was dodgy, the next one won't necessarily be.
go for it!

Thanks Gail.  I have accepted their offer and they are going to find another car.  They have asked my preferences in colour etc and I have to leave it with them for a couple of days.  I hope to hear from them today or tommorrow.  Fingers crossed.
